Video does not play on iOS or Android

Hi,

I've setup JWPlayer with a startup video and autostart = true. On the desktop, it loads and plays fine, but on a mobile device (iPad, iPhone, Android phone), using Chrome, it does not play. Here is the sample URL:

Thanks.

I set up a simple version of your page and it appears to work both on the desktop and in iOS:
http://osric.com/chris/jwplayer/jwplayer6.8/pjs.html

There may be other scripts on your page that are causing problems on mobile devices.

iOS will work, but not Android (yet).

cherdt: Thanks for looking into this. I'll sort through the include scripts and go from there.
Ethan: are you saying that there is currently no support for this, in Android, with JWPlayer 6 ? Thanks.

Np. Not yet, but 6.9 will support it.

Is there an estimated release date for 6.9 ?

1st week of June or so.

While waiting for the 6.9 release, I tried using 5.8 because I have a license for it. But that still won't work in Android. Here is the test URL -

Can you take a look ? Thanks.

Just curious, but why would you think that a two-and-a-half-year-old version of JW Player would support this, when the current version doesn't?

Thats a good question, so let's go back to version 6.x. Looking at this page -
http://support.jwplayer.com/customer/portal/articles/1403653-browser-device-support,
it would seem that JW Player supports Android playback. Is there a sample page that plays an mp4 on an Android phone ?

The video on our support page here should play on all browsers that support HTML5:

Thanks Andrew, for the URL. That worked.
Here's the odd thing, I went back and tried the URL from cherdt above:
http://osric.com/chris/jwplayer/jwplayer6.8/pjs.html
and it also works in Chrome on Android (Cyanogenmod 10.2 - Android 4.3). So not sure why Ethan said it won't. Btw, I never tried cherdt's URL on the phone until now, because I took Ethan's word for it. Now I just have to figure out the playlist format for version 6.x.
So just out of curiosity , did version 5.8 ever supported Android ? I was under the impression that is does, that's why I bought a license for it. Thanks.

Hi,

We would fall back to a standard video tag on mobile with JW5, however this means that many of our features were not supported.

Ethan was speaking about HLS, which will be (quasi)supported on Android with our next version. (Depending on the version of Android )
