Cannot get JW Player to work to save my life

I have spent hours and hours trying to get JW Player to work, I've had the theme developer log in and look. I don't know what else to try, but I need it so bad.

The error is JW Player - No Playable Sources Found. The videos are Mp4, I've tried a single video, every setting and way I can think to troubleshoot it, everything is set correctly.

Can you give me some suggestions?

Here's an example: http://a2thepoweroftwo.com/?page_id=1093

Oh, it looks like you are using some type of custom gallery.

I would recommend simply using our plugin for WP – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress/

We have a guide here – http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw-player/31561/getting-started-with-the-jw-player-wordpress-plugin

Is the other plugin Cool Gallery or something? I think the two conflict.

I do have the plugin installed - that's what's running. There isn't anything else.

What is that slide set thing then? That is certainly not our plugin.

JW Player

It's the way the theme handles video galleries - it uses slide sets.

Okay, you're right, if I do insert media and put a JW playlist in there, it plays

refresh the page.

This is DynamiX newest update, there's something going on with their slide set system.

Ah, there must be a clash between their theme and our plugin, then.

I spoke too soon. Look on IE - error loading, file could not be played.

I was checking on Firefox.

http://a2thepoweroftwo.com/?page_id=1093

Firefox plays, IE doesn't - with the straight insert media>jwplaylist.

I have a tech email into Dynamix on their galleries.

Have your hosting provider add the MP4 MIME TYPE.

Right now your video file has this mime type – text/plain

But it should be – video/mp4

That will fix IE.

I've downloaded JW Player 6 for wordpress, installation and activating the plugin is really easy, however making it work is time consuming, my videos won't play, the page is blank when I preview. Please help

Thanks!

What files (complete urls) do those media ids represent?

Most of my videos are in Amazon S3 but I'm not testing using them, I uploaded an mp4 and a flv to test.

Thanks.

Can I have the full urls to both files?

JW Player

User

I used the media manager to insert a video, I selected the video I wanted, then I clicked on "Insert with JW Player", JW Player generated the code, gave me a numbers rather than a URL for mediaid.

Yes, but I want to know what the video file path is? Just an example? If you have it?

I'm having similar difficulties with a new installation, in that the shortcodes seem to be working for me on wordpress _pages_ but not on wordpress _posts_. weird, but I could work with that if I had to ...

(Love the product, I had it working sweet with pseudostreaming at a site I built a couple of years ago. been away since then 'til just now)

woody, it should work just fine in both cases. However, maybe you disabled the player using the Short Code settings under JW Player > Settings?

Hello, I'm also having similar issues on my Wordpress blog.. I've embedded my videos from S3 Cloudfront using both the JW Player Wizard on one page, and I've also created another page that loads video via the JW Player wordpress plugin.

My videos load correctly in the browser on Windows for both wizard and plugin, but the players are not working when I try to access pages from mobile Android or IOS devices, I get the same error message as above:

Error Loading player: No Playable sources found.

Again videos only work on Windows, but not on mobile android or ios, I thought this plugin should load on all devices by default?

Please advise.

@VV: I expect you use either FLV files or RTMP streaming for these videos. Unfortunately, both are not supported on mobile devices. Therefore, you should encode these videos to MP4 and serve them over CloudFront HTTP. That will work in both Flash and mobile.

Ethan - I'm back from the very beginning of this post. LOL

My host said the only way to get mp4 mime in was to do an htaccess file -
I did an .htaccess file containing only video/mp4 to fix the player not working in IE - blew the damn wordpress sky high and it wouldn't even load.

So here's where I'm at - check my homepage a2agent.com - that video is jwplayer by inserting jw playlist and the shortcode - it plays in IE and FF no problem.

When I DO NOT use a playlist and add the videos to a video gallery in my theme, it doesn't play in IE - I don't know what the difference is between using a playlist or just the video - is it that the playlist is actually defining the player for IE? Do you think this is a bug in my theme handling the player?

I need to get from point a to point z the easiest way possible, if the easiest way and you still think adding the mime for mp4 will fix IE across the board, can you give me some more direction?

As always, I appreciate your help... I'm a.l.m.o.s.t there.

The MIME TYPE is still not set correctly here. You could always just set the player’s primary variable to flash to work around this issue, but a real fix would be setting a proper .htaccess file.

Hi Ethan,

Proper - I don't need anything else but this, my htaccess says:

AddType video/mp4

That's all and wordpress burns up.

It is already set as flash as primary, still not working in IE.

Thanks again!!

ETHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fixed it!

htaccess:
AddType video/ogg .ogv
AddType video/mp4 .mp4
AddType video/webm .webm
AddType audio/mp3 .mp3

The videos magically came to life!

Whatever genius mystical thing you did to check before to see that it wasn't there, can you do again and see if all looks well?

I think I'm good!!

Thank you so much for your help!

Dangit. I'm sorry, I have another one and THEN I'm going to have these videos done. I've got about 20 training videos and I've got to get this down.

These are mp4's at 640x480 - they're in a lightbox and that may be the problem here - the player is set at 640x480 (I've tried stretching, etc.) but vid in the player is like 1 inch by 1 inch. There's tons of black around the video in the player and I can't get the video to fill the player no matter what setting I try. How do I get the vid to fill the player?

Test page is here:

http://a2thepoweroftwo.com/?page_id=1066

Thanks again, sorry, I'm annoying myself with all these questions too :-)

The players here load and pop up in the lightbox and seem like they are a proper size to me? I would set the player’s stretching variable to exactfit though, that should help.

JW Player

User

The video INSIDE the player is dinky, you can't even read the type on them - see all the black around them? the videos are originally 640x480, they should fill the player. I set the stretch every which way and it doesn't change the size of the video to fill the player window.

Does that make sense?

I see black bars around them but the actual video displays fine, just centered.

Can I see sample code you are using for the 1st video, for example?

Hm, I need to figure out what the code is so I can show you where to add this variable. How are you adding the player code to the lightbox then?
