Same here, the file has sound when played in MPC but there's no sound when played with JW.
I used StaxRip to build the .mp4

@Athou - will this file play? http://www.jeroenwijering.com/upload/acera.mp4 (from the wizard page)

Did anybody ever figure this one out?

I see the same problem with .mp4 files that I'm testing with the player tonight. They play with audio just fine in VLC etc., but no audio in mediaplayer.

The acera.mp4 file linked above does play with audio in mediaplayer. I notice that it is using an AAC track for audio, though, while my files use MP3 tracks. So maybe that's the issue?

Hmm, another difference (again no idea if this matters) is that acera.mp4 has the video synced to the audio track, while my files have the audio synced to the video.

Athou's "a.mp4" file is like mine; it has an MP3 audio track that is synced to the video.

Heh; you can work around it by splitting the audio out into another file and then selecting that file with the "audio" flashvar for mediaplayer, but that feels a little... icky.

Ah, unfortunately that audio can get desynced, so it's not really a workaround after all.

this had me puzzled for awhile too, bummer.

So, is there a solution to this? I'm getting no audio either. And sometimes i only get audio but no video. Pissing me off.

The audio flashvar stopped working when I upgraded the player, isn't it supported anymore?

I also have the same problem:mp4, no audio, video only
On 2 videos on this page:

Normally, Flash is supposed to support this?
Anyone had any more clues?

Flash AS3 is known to have issues with MP3 audio at any sampling rate except 41,000Hz. Re-encode the two files at 44,100Hz and they will probably work.

Problem solved !
Convert the mp4 video to AVI format and you will get video and sound.
I have just tried it and it works great.
Unfortunately, you will notice that the mp4 video is say only 20MB, and when connverted to AVI it is 50MB
Heck ! I don't care as long as it works.

Cheers

With Orbit downloader (http://www.orbitdownloader.com/) the video file will be downloaded as an .flv file (120 MB) and Vdeo+Sound will be heard when playing back with Media Player + Shark's Codec Pack installed (http://shark007.net/index.html). But there is another video on YouTube that won't give any sound, although the user comments seems to have no problems. The link to my problem-file: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ8qmilo8ic

Please comment if you have also the problem of hearing no sound. According VLC Player the audio stream is a mp4a stream, so it must be possible to hear sound with that video.

Any ideas ... ?

Rename the extension to 3gp and download Quick Player to watch with video WITH sound ... worked for me!

Thanks for your reply Theunis! I tried it exactly as you suggested. I have installed Quick Time player v7.65.17.80 for Windows 7, AND also Quickplayer v1.00 beta 67 (http://ctuser.net/?quickplayer) . Unfortunately I get an "Error H" with Quicktime player when loading the changed .3gp movie file with it. When loading with Quickplayer v1.00 beta 67, the player freezes....

Quickplayer v1.00 beta 67 is a music player only and does not support movies. Note the apple player name is Quick TIME player...
The freezing of Quickplayer v1.00 beta 67 is probably due a left over debug sleep instruction, making the program hang for 5 seconds with doing nothing... and will be fixed in the next release

Hi there...
I have the same problem and here is the link...

http://www.vidaplena.net/mp4_test/mp4_test%201.htm

I have already installed XP-Codec-Pack-2.5.1, but still I get no sound with this file.

JW Player

Hi folks, I finaly figure it out...

The XP-Codec-Peck-2.5.1 did no good in my case.

However, I found that coding the audio in ACC, works 100% of the times... It Seems that JW use Flash to play the MP4 files, and that Flash, so far (I am using the latest Ver. 10 in my computer), does not support MP3 audio in MP4 video files.

Here you have a test link:
http://www.vidaplena.net/mp4_test/mp4_test_ACC-Web.htm

Also I was having the issue that playing of files did not start untill tha file has been fully loaded.

I fix all that using Handbrake to encode the video files. It is a free and very cool encoding tool.

So just do this:
1.- Install Handbrake
2.- Load the file you want to convert to MP4
3.- Select the ACC audio codec in the audio section. I think any comfiguration will work. I am using ACC/Stereo/44,1K Samples/64Kbps
Those steps will fix the audio issue.
If you want also that the file starts playing as soon as it starts loading, and not wait till it is fully loaded to play, then, in the main control screen of Handbrake, select "Web Optimiced"

It seems what that option does, is puting at the begining of the MP4 file, the video index section, in stead of leaving it at the end that seems to be the default option of MP4 format.

So as soon the file starts to load, JW gets the index that he needs to start playing.

This "index" is normally refered as "moov atom" and is something like a little table that contains the exact file place where start every single second of the video. This data allows tha player to request the web server (the one that host the web page) to start streaming the fist second of video... and so on.

If that part of the file is located at the end, as it seems to be the default option of MP4, tha videa cant start untill it has been fully loaded.

Solong folks...
