No Sound for Some Users

Quite a few users have now complained about no sound coming out. All videos are Youtube videos, and the sound works great for me. I have tried it on Linux/FF/IE and XP/IE7

Some of the users I have instructed to download the newest version of Flash Player with no luck still. I can't find any commonality between users, no OS, Broswer, or Flash Version seems to matter...

Any ideas?

Hmm, do they have the player muted?

And what version do you use – 3.16 or 4.0?

3.16, same problem here

me too... volume is not muted... manually setting volume flashvar does not work... reinstalling flash player and audio drivers does not work... there has got to be a bug somewhere either in the player or youtube...

also, audio is heard when visiting the direct youtube link but not through media player 3.16

Also, I might add that I built my own player in Flex and used it for about 6 months.. also playing youTube videos from my player... not once did I experience sound issues... I don't think it's YouTube's system problem ;)

Problem disappears after installing new pre-released version of Adobe Flash Player:

Mariuszs,

thanks for the two solutions. Do you have a solution for Vista as well (this folder doesn't exist there) and for MacOS?

I have people complaining about these two OS.

fyi - just had someone who was having the no sound problem youtube problem test both of these scenarious... neither worked...

had this problem going on two years and finally fixed it, here's how:

control panel-->
sound effect manager -->
digital audio -->
change frequency from 48 khz to 44.1 khz

easy as that, i can't believe its finally over!

wait wait.. this is stupid, I can't ask every single user our there having this issue to change their sound settings.. specially for users who don't even have windows..

But at least now we've narrowed down something here.. 48 khz causes a problem, with some thing in flash perhaps?

I don't think you have the fix, please don't post and kill this thread as if you do, we need JW to find a solution so that other OS's and Windows don't suffer from a sound resolution problem.. but at least he knows where to look

Same problem here.

3.16 Player running YouTube video, lots of users saying no sound. The same YouTube video in the same page in the YouTube player works fine. So it's definitely the 3.16 player.

I've also tested with these users on the 4.0 player and the same problem.

So are there any fixes for the no sound problem?

hi folks -
has this been solved in 4.0??

Any clue why and how to fix the sound issue???

Thanks!

I'm still looking for a fix as well. Not convinced updating to latest flash beta is the answer.

@Andy

agree - i would *not* recommend users to install beta versions - theres a reason why they are in beta and not production

but it is higly plausible that some users have faulty plugin installs - it is wellknown that updating without proper deinstall can break the flashplugin with strange effects as consequence...

ok gents/ladies,

I found a temporary hack that works for me -

I'm running 3.16 - and if a user doesn't have sound -

I point them to a page with 4.0 and then back to the page with 3.16 and the sound is restored on the system jwplayer 3.16

for some random reason..

tell me if it works for you -

Take Care!

Clarifications are welcome

This isn’t random ;)

The 4.0 player fixes the mute-cookie issue from YouTube by setting it explicitly to false. The 3.16 doesn’t have this implemented yet…

How do I do this ... please?

Unbelievable that none figured this one out yet. I have the same problem and cannot solve it.

I uninstalled the Adobe Flash Player, reinstalled it. No sound. And only on the alltrailers.net site.

On Youtube it works but the interface looks different. Seems it is only Adobe Flash Payer there. On Alltrailers.net I also got a "About JW Player..." entry in the context menu.

This must have something to do with the JW player. How can I uninstalle the JW Player?

Here is another info.

If I download one of the FLV files from Alltrailers.net (e.g. http://c2.stream.alltrailers.net/592/627.flv) and play it locally with any other player (like VLC) I still hear no sound. So that points towards the codec or source file.

@George

when i check the trailer you mention, it doesnt contain any audio track at all, so no wonder it is silent...
(the same applies to a few other that i checked from the site )

the adobe flash player is a browser plugin that enables browsers to display flash animation/movies and actionscript programs with the *.swf *filename extension...

the youtube and jw players are such .swf files containing actionscript - that happen to function as video players - able to display videos with the .flv filename extension and several other formats, in the case of the jw player, such as .mp3 and .mp4

just as the youtube player, the jw players are not installed on your machine, but embedded in the webpages that show them - and as such can not be uninstalled, as they never were (installed) - contrary to the adobe flash player browser plugin that execute them...

I'm having the same problem only a Mac. I figured I was just going deaf. The Adobe forums support for Flash did no good. Hmmmm what do I do? Updated Firefox to the latest ver.. Unistalled and reinstalled Flash (last ver. as of August 28, 09) tried it in Safari, Firefox and another browser. Messed with the volume controls in the system prefs and I have even tried repairing permissions. WTF!!!
