Issue with playAd method

I am trying to use playAd method of JW Player in the beforePlay event (as per API document recommendation). I am using the playAd method because my requirement is place ads dynamically for the videos i.e. some videos might have ads and others might not. Due to this restriction I can't use advertising attribute of setup configuration.

When I do use advertising section inside setup, ads play as expected. When I try to use playAd method, ads do not play.

Can anybody help me with this issue? I am using platinum version of JW Player (which has Ads enabled).
