Publishing content from Erlyvideo Flussonic video streaming server

I'm using Flussonic (in preference to Wowza etc) and find it very good indeed.

I thought I'd investigate JW Player hosted players with my content, but I can't get it to work. The server provides HLS and RTMP streams, but neither will play on the hosted player. stream addresses are in the form :

rtmp://www.mydomain.co.uk:1935/static/streamname

and

http://www.mydomain.co.uk:8080/streamname/index.m3u8

trying either of these results in the message "no playable sources found"

I know the stream is good, because I can play it in the self-hosted player and other players too.

Can anyone suggest anything to try?

Thanks, Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Have you tested either stream in our Stream Tester at https://developer.jwplayer.com/tools/stream-tester/ ?

The reason I ask is that the Free version of our player does not support HLS playback. You will need a Premium player or higher for HLS streams, otherwise you will see that error. Your RTMP stream should work in a Free player, but given how most browsers are aggressively blocking Flash, I would not consider it a worthwhile endeavor to even test it.

Hope this helps,
Todd

Thanks for your reply.

I have just tried the page you suggested, but it won't work with http: - only https addresses - the URL it suggests, *does* work OK with the HLS stream I have tried.

I'm quite happy to pay for a premium player, if it will play our streams OK. Potentially, the hosted player is the "Holy Grail" - a single player that will work on all platforms... and hides the stream addresses from prying eyes.

Is there anywhere I could send RTMP and HTTP (HLS) addresses (privately) to confirm that they work OK ?

Thanks,

Adrian

I am not entirely clear how the pricing applies to us - specifically to get a premium hosted player for content streamed from our own server. Presumably the Premium option would fit and the "250GB Streaming/month 100k video plays/month" bit just doesn't apply ?

Thanks

Sorry about that, we have an older version of the Stream Tester that does not require HTTPS URLs at http://demo.jwplayer.com/developer-tools/http-stream-tester/

Yes, our cloud-hosted player can play your HLS streams in all major browsers without Flash. As for the prying eyes, your stream URL is still exposed in the network inspector, but someone would have to go looking for it.

And yes, all paid JW Player accounts receive a hosting and monthly streaming amount. These limits would not apply to you if you are using an external streaming provider. That being said, we also provide event-based live streaming as well, so that might be something you’re interested in. We will have 24×7 live streaming available later this year also.

Thanks for that. Our cameras run 24/7 - at present we have over 30 of them and we're streaming on a budget. Wowza was prohibitively expensive for us but the Russian (!) package called Flussonic, by Erlyvideo has proved very good indeed.

The hls-stream-tester link does indeed play our HLS streams. That being the case, can I be sure that the Hosted Player will do so?

Ideally, I'd like to trial the Hosted player - and in an ideal world, I'd like to retain the RTMP/Flash streams as an option, since I am aware that our viewers have a wide variety of systems and browsers - some of which are far from current.

Is it possible to trial the hosted player, or pay for a month, rather than having to take the risk on the full year? $300 is a reasonably big deal to our not-for-profit, volunteer-run group, so we'd have to be sure that would be money well-spent.

Thanks,
Adrian

We do not have a trial version of the Premium player, as the Stream Testers demonstrate the HLS playback capabilities of the player. The other aspects of the Premium account can be tested with the Free player.
