Streaming to Clients with Limited Resources

We have Wyse terminals in our business locations which are extremely limited in system resources, especially storage. We want to stream training content to our employees on those terminals. YouTube private videos work well but users can share the URLs, so we want more control which is why we're looking at a paid hosting solution. We find the Wyse terminal caches portions of the video locally and quickly blows through the tiny storage cache we have. Will HLS Adaptive Streaming with a paid account replicate the highly efficient just-in-time caching we get with YouTube?

Hi Jeremy. While I’m not familiar with modern Wyse terminals, assuming they have a compatible browser I would test a JW Player single-line embed preview page and observe it’s effect on the machine’s cache. I’ll provide instructions on how to generate a preview page, and I will have someone on our sales team reach out to you about getting a trial license. A free account is able to use and generate preview pages, but HLS functionality won’t work unless you have a trial or bought a Premium Subscription.

  • Click on VIDEO under the CONTENT heading on the left side of your JW Dashboard
  • Click on the name of the video you would like to test
  • In the Content Detail page, click on the EMBED button next to the name of the piece of content
  • Click on the Preview Page link which should open the preview page in a new window
