JW Player 7.4 (& 7.5 beta) Flash-less Firefox HLS support (HLS.js?)

Hello,

Currently using JW Player 7.4 (and testing 7.5 beta) to serve HLS videos. Works on most browsers and devices, but Flash-less Firefox HLS support is still an issue.

There was a thread created a few months ago where HLS integration was brought up, but no update has been provided (thread in question: https://support.jwplayer.com/customer/portal/questions/16198257-jwplayer-with-hls-js-to-avoid-flash). Todd (JW Player support agent) mentioned Chrome HLS playback but not Firefox, which is why I'm starting a new thread; feel free to merge.

Is there a plan to add HLS+Firefox support to JW Player 7+, either by way of HLS.js or other library? In the meantime, what are our options for Flash-less video playback on Firefox using JW Player?

Thank you.

edit: just noticed this thread (https://support.jwplayer.com/customer/portal/questions/16357729-hls-streaming-not-working-on-firefox-with-no-flash-so-why-doesn-t-it-default-to-html5-) - so feel free to merge/lock this one.

Thanks.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for contacting JW Support. I’m Donni, one of the Support Engineers at JW Player.

We’re currently working on bringing HLS to HTML5 in Firefox and IE. You can sign up here to get e-mails on player updates. Additionally, any added functionality or features will show up in your JW dashboard or the release notes page.

Kind Regards,
Donni
