IF i want to ensure comparability with as many devices and browsers as is reasonably possible which file formats should i make available for each video

For streaming and live streams, HLS will give you compatibility with most devices. iOS and Android can play HLS streams natively. Safari for Macs can also play HLS natively, and our player will load the HLS stream using Flash for other desktop browsers. The version of our player that is currently in beta, 7.4, can also play HLS natively in Chrome for desktops.

For any other video, MP4s encoded with H.264 for video and AAC for audio (you can also upload your videos to us and we will do all the encoding for you) will work on pretty much all devices.
