Analytics missing - where have I gone wrong?

We did live streaming in March and April but when I go into analytics there is no information - completely blank. Can someone help please?

Did you apply media IDs to the embed code on the pages that had the live streams? Also, time watched won’t get populated for live streams (in case you did have media IDs)

Hi Donni,
Thanks for your response. Having looked at our code, no we didn't have media id's. From where and how do we get these?

I have checked out that article and think I have got the general idea.
We have one page (stream.php) that contains two players with links to separate pages (stream_1.php and stream_2.php) to view each stream independently. Assuming some people stay on the page with the two players embedded and some people follow the link to the independent stream do I need to add the media id's to all three pages or would it be better to not embed both streams on stream.php and just provide links to stream_1 and stream_2?

I think it would be better to have links to the different streams so you can avoid having an inflating embed count.

Hi Donni,
I think I have it all sorted now and have managed to create media id's for both streams but I do have one last question, if you don't mind:
We use Amazon EC2 instances for our streaming. Consequently the ip address is the only thing that changes event to event. Would I need to create fresh media id's each time the ip address changes or would they just carry on?

No, if its the same “event” you wouldn’t need to create more media IDs.

Hi again
It would appear that I still have something not right. We streamed a full weekend event and still nothing is showing in the analytics panel. I am at a loss as to where we have gone wrong. Any suggestions?

Can you show me the page so I can take a look at your embed code?

Hi Donni

Here is the link to one of our pages: http://www.epa.org.uk/epa_streaming_1.php
If that is not suitable I can copy the source code and paste on here.

Thanks for that. Put the JW generated media ID in the playlist block. Check the browser console as it will show an error if the player doesn’t detect the media ID in the correct part of the embed code.

Hi Donni
Thank you for your help again. I'm lacking the experience to be able to understand what you mean by the playlist block.
Do you mean like this?:
playlist: [{
sources: [{
file: 'rtmp://ec2-..-...-..-....us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com:1935/live/live'
},{
file: 'http://ec2-..-...-..-....us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com:1935/live/live/playlist.m3u8'
}]
mediaid: 'mediaidgoeshere'
}],

Also I'm not sure what you mean by check the browser console. Is that located in the JW Player dashboard?
Sorry for my lack of understanding

Yes that is the correct usage. I mean like the developer debug mode that most browsers have that let you look at the source code of the page and the network information etc etc. If you open your page in chrome and open developer tools and then click on the console tab you’d see No media_id found Does that make sense?

I looked for examples of where to put the media id and found several where it always seemed to be last on the list - I will now amend that to the correct position.
Looking at the console in IE11 doesn't show any errors and it hadn't occurred to me to look in Chrome. The error is indeed listed in there.
Tomorrow I will try a test stream to see whether it will show in the analytics. Am I right in thinking that it could be up to 24hrs before I will see the results?

No you should be able to see plays and embeds on the specific piece of content within a few minutes. Just remember if its a livestream you won’t be able to see time watched.
