Can I have the link to download for free trial? My site is using XHTML v. 1.0 transitional doc type. Also, is there support for JW V. 6?
Thank you!

Hi, there.

My name is Alex and I am one of the Support Engineers at JW Player. I will be more than happy to assist you with your questions.

Can I have the link to download for free trial?

While we don’t have a free trial version available, we do have a completely free version of our player available. You can find out more about the Free player along with the added features you receive with a paid account on this page.

My site is using XHTML v. 1.0 transitional doc type.

The latest version of our player, JW Player 7, contains a lot of functionality that requires HTML5. Because of that, we recommend using the HTML5 doctype of <!DOCTYPE html>.

Also, is there support for JW V. 6?

When you sign up for an account, you do receive the ability to download a JW Player 6 player.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

Thank you Alex! Unfortunately at this time, we cannot replace the doctype to HTML5. In light of these circumstances, should we use JW Player version 6 only? And would I need to purchase this version to perform a true test? The free trail version wasn't labeled as to the version, but we assume it's for JW Player 7. It would be ideal to test using a free trial of JW Player 6 if that's possible. I have signed up and have an account.

Thanks again,
Ann

Hi, Ann.

You do have access to JW Player 6 as a self-hosted player, meaning you would have to download it from us and upload it to your server. You can find the download by logging into your Account Dashboard and clicking on the “License Keys & Downloads” link.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

Alex/ Todd,
Thank you! This is very helpful. While JW Player 6 seems to be working fine for the PC on IE, Chrome, and Firefox, it is not working for Safari, Chrome and Firefox for the Mac. Are there unforeseen limitations on the Mac? Here's the code we are using wrapped in a Div:
(Note, video file is a test and not the actual)

<script src="jwplayer.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>jwplayer.key="YGl26HMwfC6UZeRn8R+pvuwTJ0ZMcQBkADx6jw==";</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
jwplayer("myVideo").setup({
file: "Hummingbird-ATT.mp4",
width: 640, height: 360
//image: "/uploads/myPoster.jpg"
});
</script>

Thank you,
Ann

Hi, Ann.

JW Player 6 should work just fine on a Mac. Can you please let me know what versions of those browsers you are using, in addition to what version of OS X is running on the Mac? Also, are you able to send me a link to a reproduction page so I can test it out on a Mac?

Thank you.

Hi there, good to know that it should work.

OS:
OS X El Capitan version 10.11.3

Browsers
Safari: version 9.0.3 (11601.4.4)
Firefox: 44.0.2
Chrome: 49.0.2623.110 (64-bit)

We are testing the video locally and will not be able to provide you with a link to review in production. Can I send you the files we are using in a zip folder? They are not very big actually. Could you provide a general email address or FTP site?

Thank you,
Ann

Hi, Ann.

Probably the best option for you to send files to us would be to upload them to a file sharing service, like Dropbox. You can then generate a link to those files and send it to support@jwplayer.com and reference case #77102 in the subject line of the email.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

Hi, Ann.

I received the site in a separate email. Thank you for that.

I opened up jwplayer.js in the browsers listed below and the player worked and video played for me just fine. If this is still happening for you, can you let me know if (a) you are receiving any error in the player itself and (b) if you are seeing any error in the browser’s console.

OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan
Chrome 49.0.2623.110 (64-bit)
Firefox 45.0.1
Safari 9.1

The easiest way to check the browser’s console is to view the page in Chrome, then go to Menu (the three horizontal lines) > More Tools > Developer Tools > Console.

Also, have you tried this on another Mac?

Thank you.

Thank you for this! I think we might try and find a way to use Able Player after all. I would like to test a video using Able Player, and I cannot find where to download an application file to test. How should I test to validate my closed captioned video on YouTube? I downloaded the files here, https://ableplayer.github.io/ableplayer/ --but still cannot find the means to test. Unless, the way to validate is to put script on an HTML page and test that way. Please advise.
Thank you,
Ann

Hi, Ann.

Since we’re not affiliated with Able Player, nor am I familiar with it, I would not be able to provide insight on how to use their player.

Thank you.
