Hi, there.

My name is Alex and I am one of the Support Engineers at JW Player. I will be more than happy to assist you with your questions.

When you upload content to your Account Dashboard, our platform automatically transcodes multiple versions of your content so that:

1) we are able to have versions of different resolutions in order to serve the best quality version to the viewer without having to waste bandwidth receiving content that is too big for their situation. For example, you would want to have a person with a large desktop display see a 1080p or 720p version of your content, while a person viewing a mobile device will have a good experience with a 480p version, plus it wouldn’t waste their bandwidth.

2) we can make sure that we are providing the best possible encoding of your content by optimizing for playback over the web.

For those reasons, we don’t suggest you delete, or otherwise disable, any transcoding templates as it can negatively affect the experience that your users have with your content. However, if you still wanted to alter your transcoding templates, mostly to save space in your storage plan with us, you can do so via /accounts/templates collection of endpoints from our API. Please note that usage of the API is for those who are experienced with using such platforms and that have some knowledge of either Python or PHP. Also, the API is very powerful so we can’t take responsibility for unwanted happenings based on someone else’s use of our API. For more information on our API and for links to download our API kit, available in both Pyton and PHP, you can visit our Developer Site.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!
