Using JW Player Vs. Browser Native player

Hi,

we are using an OVP and we can choose the player it serves in the console. (FlowPlayer, JW or custom).
-- The first problem is that they serve an older JW player (5.2).
-- The second problem, is that there are some issues in their implementation around dynamic watermarks.

I have 2 questions:
1. My ENG team decided they rather configure the system to serve native browser html player instead of JW 5.2. Can anyone help me with the pros/const of such decision?
consider that we do not support yet captions which is one area I know JW would be preferred.

2. any critical 5.2 -> 7 JW version wise that I need to be aware? consider that we do not need anything related to ads. This is for Enterprise video content.

In general you’ll more skinning capabilities with JW Player, so you’ll be able to represent you brand better. I would suggest using JW7 since JW5 is deprecated and if you have any troubles with it we won’t be able to post a fix for it.

Yes JW Player supports captions, and vtt thumbnails, it also brings HLS playback to Google Chrome, Firefox, IE as they can’t handle playback natively. JW Player has great support, I can’t speak for other solutions but if you have a problem with JW Player we will try our best to fix it with you or give you a workaround, you can’t get that with native HTML5 video tags.

Also we have these experiments that show what you could do with our API:

We offer analytics.

I don’t know that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

I upgraded from 5+ to 7+ and I am about 1.5 weeks in and still experiencing issues. Support is not very helpful considering you have to wait as long as you do for pretty basic answers. If your a full stack developer like myself, you will likely know more about JWplayer than the people responding via the support emails. So just a heads up you will have to figure it out on your own as you go.

Whatever you decide to do I think you will spend a lot of time working on it yourself.
