Not allowed to load local resource

I use JW Player on our Intranet site to view files that are stored on a network DFS share. The files are stored at that location so that they can copy out nightly to remote servers (and thus avoiding the network lag of streaming videos over our WAN).

The videos run fine with Internet Explorer, however, with Chrome and Firefox I get the error "Not allowed to load local resource." Here is the file format I'm using: file://foo.org/dfs/foo/test.mp4

If I go directly to the MP4 file from Chrome/Firefox, it opens fine, but trying to access the file within JW Player shows an error that says "Error Loading Media: File Could Not Be Played. When I look at my console I see the "Not allowed to load local resource error."

Any suggestions?

Hi, there!

JW Player will not allow you to open up local files using the file:// protocol. If the files are hosted on an intranet that is accessible within the company, it can be behind a firewall, but needs to be served via HTTP or HTTPS.

I hope this helps!

Thank you!
