JW& and wav

I have read extensively that JW Player does not support .wav. Yet I can successfully upload it and it plays in multiple environments using JW7. Has there been a change that is not fully documented yet?
Thanks
Paul

It's probably browser support dependant.
Just like vp9 codec is not supported by JW but it plays fine in Chrome

Thanks for that Mark. Yes - I can understand that as a possibility.

Hi, Paul.

Mark is correct – while our player does not support .WAV files, it may still play in some browsers based on their support for the format.

If you need to be able to play these files in our player across platforms, I would suggest converting them to a supported file format, such as MP3, before uploading.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

Thank's Alex. I am creating a help file for some clients so although I understood this I wanted to clear up the question.

So - to clarify one step further? Are you able to tell me why this is the case? Just curious, especially at it is possible to store a wav in the system. :)

I’m not entirely sure, but our official support it probably stems from the entire industry’s support of MP3 and AAC, as compared to WAV. WAV files are often a lot larger in file size than the other formats.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!
