Can I use Free JWPlayer to stream via RackSpace Cloud CDN files

I would like to setup JWPlayer with our RackSpace Cloud File account to stream via our CDN. http://www.rackspace.com/knowledge_center/article/streaming-cloud-files-with-jw-player

After reading several blog and support forum questions on this, it appears that a commercial JW Player license must be purchased in order to stream our videos, which are hosting via RackSpace.

Can you verify this? And if so, is there a way to test this first on a trial commercial player before investing $300 without know if it will work or not.

Thanks..

What type of videos are you serving? If you intend on simply serving mp4 videos or using RTMP, you can use the free version. You will need a premium edition if you’d like to stream HLS. Also, if you’d like to try our a premium player, please email the support team at support@jwplayer.com.

Yes, we plan on using only mp4, but would like to have the capability of streaming not just playing.. It wasn't clear that the player allows us to stream (w/o HLS) in the instructions. So thank you for clarifying.

Also, why is it required to upload the JW Player and Akamai to the CDN container. Can this be implemented just by placing directly our our web server with the video files in the CDN?

You don’t need to upload JWPlayer to Akamai. You can simple use the cloud-hosted version as detailed here:
