Password Protected Directory -- New Video Playback issue

Hi,

We have been using JWplayer since 2010. Our videos, jwplayer and html pages embedding the player are all in a password protected directory. All of the sudden our videos do not play on IOS and they seem to require the password to play each time on other browsers.

What has happened and how do we fix this. We have done nothing new. This issue appears for mp4 videos playing under the JW6 and old JW5.

Strangely when we put the MP4s in a non-restricted part of the site, they play fine in the restricted portion. We however don't want videos on the open web.

Regards,

John

I am fairly certain that videos played in a password protected directory have an issue with iOS in html5 video natively. This is just done by .htaccess, right?

I'm having the same issue. Video plays perfectly from unsecured directory but gives the following error from a .htaccess password protected directory.

"Error loading media: File could not be played"

Video is MP4 format and all js files are in password protected directory.

Using IE11, FF, and Chrome. Same on all.

I also discovered that my player is causing the server to rewrite the .htaccess from

public_html/cgi-bin/data/.htpasswd

to

.htpasswds/public_html/1Restricted/passwd

This is causing the whole site to have permission issues. This is a completely new issue that just began.

When you have issues, please provide links, so people here can debug them.

JW Player is client-side. It can't possibly change your .htaccess file, which is on the server. No client-side application can alter any files on the server.

We tried playing mp4s on IOS8 using where the mp4 is password protected directory on video-js as well. Same issue won't play the video in IOS8. Only will play video on IOS8 if mp4 in an unprotected directory.

Seems to be an IOS8 issue. Anyone have any fixes?
